DON AGENT - DIRECTOR OF TECHNICAL SUPPORT & EDUCATION
Don Agent started working in the bowling industry in 1985 as a lane boy then eventually porter, pin chaser and head mechanic. He was a freelance pinsetter mechanic for about 5 years before joining Kegel in 1996 to work in quality control for lane machines. Since joining Kegel he has worked in Technical Support, R&D, Sales and also formed the pinsetter parts division for Kegel in 2011.
Don has traveled extensively in his roles at Kegel and has visited 41 countries, 6 continents and 48 states conducting lane maintenance seminars. From 1997-2000, he did lanes on the men’s, women’s, and senior tours as well as world events for WTBA, ABF and ETBF. In between events, he traveled around the country rebuilding lane machines on the Kegel service trailer. He helped establish technical support in Asia and Europe and now currently serves as head of the Support and Education division of Kegel.
John Janawicz - Technical Support
John Janawicz "JJ" (as he is known throughout the bowling world) is a graduate of the University of Central Florida with a degree in Business Administration. He has worked with Kegel since 1998. During his tenure at Kegel, JJ has traveled extensively managing lane maintenance for the PBA Tour as well as the European Bowling Tour and many worldwide Games and Championships. His involvement in pattern theory development makes him a well-rounded technician and master pattern theorist. JJ has been in the bowling industry since 1989 and brings the competitive side of bowling to the table as well being a 8-time Team USA member. In 2004 JJ shot an 858, the highest singles score ever shot in USBC Open Championship history at the time. He was also on the record-setting Lodge Lanes Too team that shot 3538 at the 2013 USBC Open Championships winning the Team Championship that year. JJ's goal is to create and uphold a fair playing field for the sport of bowling around the world.
TERRY OWENS - Technical Support
Terry Owens started with Kegel in 2000 building lane machines in our core manufacturing division and quickly learned all lane machine systems advancing to Quality Control Manager where he served as the final say for all completed lane machines. In 2017, Owens was promoted to lead the Tech Support Team as Director of Technical Support. Owens later held the position of Technical Sales Specialist and leveraged his technical knowledge to offer help with sales, installation, and general service. Terry also led a series of lane maintenance training courses at Kegel for both Distributors and customers before moving out of the country, where he continued to work with Kegel remotely. While living abroad, Owens performed remote technical support work and assisted with tournaments and machine installations throughout Europe. The staff was excited to welcome Terry back to Kegel’s U.S. Headquarters to continue to help customers as part of the Technical Support Team.
BILL WALTERS - TECHNICAL SUPPORT
Bill Walters comes from a bowling center background, serving as head mechanic for over 40 years. In this role, he was responsible for maintenance of the lanes, pinsetters, and scoring, among other equipment. He is a former PBA regional member with 14 300 games and has worked with numerous state and local bowling associations to coordinate lane conditioning during tournaments. Bill spent years sharing his passion and knowledge for bowling as contributor to International Bowling Industry Magazine and continues to educate bowling audiences through a variety of outlets for Kegel. Bill joined the Kegel team in 2016 as part of the Pinsetter Parts division, but with almost two decades of experience working with Kegel lane maintenance equipment and chemicals, he has earned his ranks on the Kegel Team.
RYAN HOVAN - TECHNICAL SUPPORT
Ryan Hovan, an avid bowler throughout high school, took his first job in the bowling industry in 2006 as a Score Assistant at South Point Bowling Center and Plaza in Las Vegas, Nevada. He grew his mechanic skills earning A-Mechanic status in 2012. During this time, he also served as a USBC Lane Technician for competitive events. After relocating, he spent over two years working for Bowlmor AMF servicing AMF 82-70s before returning to his home center.
Ryan first visited Kegel in in 2009 to complete a Level 1 Lane Maintenance training course and in 2019 he joined the Kegel Technical Support team. In addition to Tech Support, Ryan also performs lane machine rebuilds and installations. He has worked with various Kegel machines over the years and is especially knowledgeable about the FLEX and IKON model lane machines. After years of working with GS pinsetters, and with training from the Brunswick Pinsetter School, Ryan is also a great resource for all variety of parts compatible with GS Machines.
